I am spending my exciting Friday night with a fuzzy green microbe. Yes, I lead an exciting life. For my graduate
epidemiology class, we are studying various infectious diseases and the role they have in public health.
To make class more entertaining, the professor gave us each a different disease to study, but in the form of a fuzzy stuffed
animal microbe that we got to keep. Microbes ranged from H1N1 (Bird Flu), to HIV, to tropical diseases such as Malaria (which I received, though my fuzzy green microbe is more formally known as
Plasmodium falciparum).
For those science teachers or nerds out there like myself who would like to purchase similar items for teaching or educational purposes, microbes can be purchased at
www.giantmicrobes.com.
I leave you with a picture of my fuzzy Friday night date (both the stuffed form and the real, microscopic form).
what graduate program are you in, jasmin? and your microbe kinda looks cute! ;o)
