Ice princess I am not...

How was everyone's weekend? Mine was quite active: tennis, gym, and ice skating. The latter I hadn't done for a while, so I am happy to report that I did not spend any time on my butt. It was quite enjoyable too since it was hot outside.

Every time I go ice skating, I'm amazed at how effortless and easy professional ice skaters make everything look. Ice skating has always been my favorite sport to watch during the winter Olympics. Growing up, I especially loved watching the pairs program and seeing the couples twirl, jump, and spin around.

However, the thought of me spinning around on the ice is terrifying. All I can do is skate forwards and turn. I can't even stop once I've built up speed (hello, wall!), skate backwards, or even sideways, which I suppose are all basics. This is quite problematic when I'm on the ice and there are a ton of small kids skating around. Luckily, I didn't crash into anyone or bump any kids over.

Below are some pictures taken via camera phone, even though they're blurry since I was moving (quite rigidly and ungracefully) across the ice. Happy Monday!

  1. I always wanted to skate. Never had the ankles for it. Too weak.

Dropping in from sits. Make it a great day!

  2. You look good out there! Whenever I try to ice skate I wind up mopping the ice with my butt. I need my feet planted firmly on the ground.

  3. In my 20s, I took figure skating lessons for about a year. It was great exercise and lots of fun but you can't do much with it at that age. Plus, you have a lot more fear than you would have had as a kid. I think it takes starting at the age of 5 or 6 to be able to do it all without thinking about it!
